About Us

Paddy Cocking - Director
Hi, my name is Paddy I am the founder of Parentwise. I set up Parentwise in January 2010 offering quality midwife led birth preparation classes to parents to be in Exeter, Devon. I have been a registered midwife for 24 years. I am passionate about what I do and ensuring couples are adequately prepared for this amazing journey to parenthood. Aiming to preserve and enhance a woman's independence, dignity and actively encouraging the involvement of family and close friends.
As a mother of three myself I know how special becoming a parent can be... a little daunting too! I took the steps to have antenatal classes in addition to the NHS classes with my husband. In my opinion it was the best thing we did. The friends we made we still keep in touch with 20 years later. We all supported each other through those tough first weeks.
My aim is to deliver great courses with lots of laughter along the way. I am a member of the Royal College of Midwives and my practice is regulated by the Nursing and Midwifery Council. We are fully insured for practice.

Kate Cranness - Trainer
Hi, my name is Kate and I have been a midwife in Exeter for over 10 years. I have worked in the community, on labour ward and on the low risk birth centre. I am passionate about supporting women and their families through pregnancy, birth and the early postnatal period. I believe that high quality, safe maternity care is vital for all women so my current role has taken me into the more strategic aspects of midwifery, supporting midwives through audits, guidance and service improvement to give the best possible care.
Teaching with Parentwise gives me the opportunity to connect with and support new parents in the same way that I was supported through these classes when having my first baby. The transition to parenthood is an exciting, daunting time and I know just how valuable antenatal classes are. The Parentwise ‘girls’ when I took the course remain some of my best friends and we share a really special connection. I really enjoy working with Paddy and the team to support couples to become families through Parentwise.

Laura Johns - Trainer
Hi, my name is Laura, I’m a midwife and 17 years ago I helped welcome my first baby into the world. It was such an amazing experience and privilege to share with the parents this most incredible moment. Several hundred babies later I still experience such awe at the birth of a new baby. I continue to be privileged to care for and support new families through their pregnancies, labour and the postnatal period.
I have worked as an integrated midwife and matron, in both community and hospital settings, helping women to birth babies at home, in the birth centre and on the labour ward. I currently work within the triage and birth centre teams at the Royal Devon and Exeter Hospital.
It is great to be part of the Parentwise team and helping to deliver fun and informative sessions and encouraging friendships to grow . I look forward to meeting you and being part of your journey to becoming family. I might even be there when your little one makes an appearance into the world.
